Ex EFCC Lawyer regrets withdrawal of charges against Sen. Goj

Senior counsel to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , Barr. Wahab Shittu has expressed his disappointment over the withdrawal of corruption allegations levelled against former Governor of Gombe state, Senator Danjuma Goje.

In a media chat, Shittu said the withdrawal of corruption allegations against Senator Goje is a let down for not just EFCC but the anti corruption stance of the Federal Government.

Shittu noted that with the FG’ s withdrawal of the case having demanded EFCC to hand over all the file case to it, all his eight years junketing from Lagos to Abuja and from Jos to Gombe, arranging witnesses , gathering exhibits and painstakingly prosecuting the ex Governor was an avoidable and total waste of time and energy .

The learned counsel said time, fund and logistics were expended on building an iron caste case of proven and incontrovertible corruption against the alleged, stressing that the oral evidences in court of the already arranged prosecution witnesses would have served the cause of Justice in Nigeria.

He lamented the negative impression this gesture of the Federal Government would have on the global indexing of anti corruption in Nigeria.
He maintained that with the withdrawal of the pending suit against Goje by the Attorney General of the Federation, other cases of corruption been prosecuted by EFCC would simply be held suspect by the general public.
